It's actually tobacco smoke from a hookah.
You can get really thick smoke from those, while not as thick as what I painted, it can look pretty cool.

I used a glazing technique to make the smoke... and I think for some of the coloring on her face? I can't remember! haha.
It's one of my favorite paintings I've ever done.
